Solitaire Turn 3 (Draw Three)

What Is Turn 3 Solitaire?

Turn 3 is the classic casino-style version of Klondike Solitaire. Instead of flipping one stock card at a time, every tap on the stockpile deals three cards at once — and only the top card of the fan can be played. The other two stay locked until you use the card above them or come back on a later pass. Same rules, same layout, entirely different level of planning.

Why Play Draw 3?

  • Deeper strategy: you must track which cards are buried in the fan and time your stock cycles around them.
  • Higher skill ceiling: where Turn 1 forgives almost any move order, Turn 3 punishes careless plays. Move order genuinely decides games.
  • The authentic challenge: this is the version played in casinos and classic Windows Solitaire's "hard" setting.

Turn 3 Strategy Tips

  1. Count in threes. The stock always deals in the same groups unless you play a card. Playing one card from a fan shifts every later group — sometimes that single play unlocks the whole stock.
  2. Don't rush the foundations. A low card sent up too early may be needed to hold a sequence in the tableau.
  3. Empty columns are gold. Only Kings fill them, so before you clear a column, make sure a useful King is actually available.
  4. Reveal face-down cards first. Every hidden card you flip beats almost any stock play.
